The idea of Care4oneAnother began in 2016 while Irene and I were living in Thailand and working for BMW. We fully immersed into the Thai culture from day one and we quickly found that the combination of people, culture, belief system, and lifestyle made Thailand a magical place to live and work. Thailand also had a profound personal impact on us as we found ourselves working on social and environmental issues that we had never considered in the past. One person in particular, Jariya Koonlinthip, opened our eyes to the ongoing clean drinking water crisis in Thailand and with the support of BMW, we started Care4water.
Through this experience, we found that improving lives is sustainable when local community leaders and organizations are taking action to improve living conditions in their own community.
Support clean drinking water for those in need.
Irene and I love to travel. We have lived in and traveled to more than 40 countries. In many of the visited countries, we saw first hand the lacking infrastructure to provide clean drinking water to its inhabitants. So in December 2021, we decided to do something about it and founded Care4oneAnother.
Do what you love and help along the way.
Before traveling, we coordinate with local established non-profit organizations who are located in areas that do not have the luxury of clean drinking water. We hand carry filters with us to support immediate needs and establish relationships for ongoing support.
Emily traveled to Guatemala and helped along the way at Niños de Alotenango to assemble, deliver and train 50 bucket filter recipients.
With support from village leaders, water sourced from a nearby pond can now be safely consumed directly from the tap for the first time.
Residents who reported sickness from drinking tap water sourced from a nearby river can now drink safe filtered water..
50 bucket filters delivered to families in need.
Following up with past recipients to inquire about changes in health since the last filters were installed.
The holes have been drilled and the filter package placed inside the buckets for the upcoming training session.
Showing the dirty water inside the bucket to compare the crystal clear drinkable water coming out of the filter.
All 50 recipients get the chance to assemble the bucket filter themselves before leaving the training session.
Nong Chanson is a beautiful farming community of approximately 100 households, surrounded by rice fields as far as the eye can see. The village water source is a large pond which has only been used for washing clothes and dishes. After a training session with the village leaders, we all went together from house to house to install 100 Sawyer tap filters. It was a humbling experience to watch people drink from their faucets for the first time.
Wiphaiwan (Maew), far left, was born and raised in Nong Chanson, Thailand. She has traveled to more than 110 countries and experienced first-hand, the challenges of dependable clean drinking water. Maew was instrumental in organizing the installation of water filters for her village.
During our visit to the island of Grenada, we were fortunate to hook up with Deleon Forrester who directed us of an area of the island that was off of the national water grid. She set up transportation and accompanied us to Mt. Granby along the western coast.
The village was fortunate to have running water sourced from a nearby river; however, the water was unfiltered and the quality could not be guaranteed. In fact, residents reported aquatic life coming out of their faucet. It is no wonder that sometimes people got sick.
A nonprofit is as strong as the community that holds it up. Together, we can do more than we can do alone. Let's bring our abilities and passions together to affect real change.
There are many ways to join us and support our mission. Contact us to find out more about opportunities, fundraising events, and ways that you can help to spread our message.
